How To "Flip" A Craigslist Find For A Profit- Part 1

So I am cruising craigslist last week and stumble upon this little set. Drop leaf kitchen table and 2 wooden chairs. Do I buy it?

YES, and here is why.

1) It is solid wood and sturdy.
2) Three pieces for $10 which is one of my rules, BUY LOW!

Originally I had intended to refinish the top and stain it. However, when I went to take a look at the table, it had a very thick layer of sealant on it. I wasn't going to get through it without a jack hammer. Not to worry, it is easy enough to repaint the top.

So I bring them home and immediately get to cleaning the years of gunk off. This step is very important, if it isn't clean your paint won't stick.

I grabbed my favorite non- toxic degreaser, Basic H.

And tada, all clean!

In tomorrow's post we will talk about choosing a great finish to bring these back to life. You wouldn't know it to look at them now, but there is a pretty tea table hiding in there.

  1. I can't wait to see what you do with this! I bet it's going to be brilliant. I have thought about buying stuff on Craigslist to refinish and sell, but it's so much work! I don't know how you find the time.
