Decapitated Duck And A Mother's Dream

The other day I am reading my friend Liz's blog, Designing Domesticity. She is showing us just how easy it is to put together a gorgeous succulent display and she places it right on her coffee table. It looks great. What does this have to do with a duck and his poor head you ask?

For most of you, without small children, placing something on your coffee table wouldn't give you a second thought. But for me I have been dreaming of the day when this will be possible. And Liz, I know has a three year old little girl.

Maybe I have miss judged my boys. Maybe I should just give it a try. Ok, so I go and find this little wooden duck. It isn't a plant but let's start slowly. Even if they pick it up it is sturdy enough, right?

Wrong.

The duck only survived an hour in my house. Poor duck.
I glued his head back on and now he is on the top of the bookcase with everything else.
A girl can dream.

  1. This is hilarious! Don't worry you'll get your coffee table stuff back - probably sooner than you think. Super glue rocks- doesn't it?!

  3. I hear You! I bought a little fake pear to put on my entryway table only to find teeth marks all over it that very evening. Decorating with kids is a work in progress :).

  4. Finally I figured it out!! I had to put my internet settings on low security to enable the cookies. It was blocking it from recognizing me. So weird, I have commented on so many of your posts and this never happened. Who knows with blogger!!

Anyways, I can't decorate my coffee table either. my two year old likes to play with anything I put at his level. Except on my bottom shelf of my console table. Doesn't touch decorations there. Maybe because it's not at his eye level?

I find with kids that I decorate according to whether they will break it or not. Good thing I love them so much!

  5. Bummer about the duck. I had 5 brothers growing up. The only thing "pretty" in our home was the kitchen sink when all the dishes were clean. That's because I did the dishes!

Super Glue covers a multitude of sins.

  7. lol! My kids are very far apart in ages so this has been a problem for me for years. Amazingly, it's not always the youngest who breaks things either. I never get too attached to anything for that very reason.

  10. Our house is pretty minimalist, too. Just last week, a framed picture that I tried to hang in the entry was destroyed when my two- and four-year-old boys somehow managed to rip down one of the bi-fold doors from the closet and smash it into the wall/picture. Sigh.

  11. This is really funny - I know I've got a long ways to go before I can put things back in the open. My little girl ate a small piece of paper from one of my magazines the other day - who knows what she will do next.

  12. Not to go too far off topic, but I'd love to see the updated "after" for your library presto chango! :) I'm thinking of doing the same thing in my kitchen's dining nook.

  16. Hahha I just cackled (yes an abrupt loud scary laughter)at work when I read this...
I decorate everywhere BUT my coffee table. My coffee table is decorated by trucks, trains, train tracks, and stuffed animals.
    Beautiful fancy decor huh?

    Boys will be boys right.
