Day 18- Finishing Up The Arms

We are almost finished putting on the arms. For the last little bit you will need to wrap a small piece of fabric around the little piece of cardboard. I'm not sure what it is called but it goes on the front and has big nails on the back.

Staple the fabric on the back. Make some piping. You can read how to do that HERE.

Wrap the piping around the cardboard and staple in place.

Lookin' good!

Using the large nails in the back, push the cardboard back into place.

Almost finished! Now we just have to put the back on and it's all done.

Don't forget to stop by and link up your vintage furniture finds tonight at 10 eastern!

  1. The arms of my chair were quite different (I had to sew this piece together) and I have a question about stapling around the cardboard. What keeps the staples from going through to the visible side of the fabric? BTW, it's looking really great!

  2. Amazing how finished it looks when you're done. So professional! Are you in the business? The friend I'm helping with her house has access to a reupholster shop owned by her dad. He's incredible. But like any other business, family always comes last. We got to choose fabrics b/c he's going to redo some chairs for her and a sofa too. Knowing how to do that yourself is awesome!

  3. For the most part the cardboard is thick enough with the fabric that the staples have never gone all the way through. If they did, I would probably just add an extra layer or 2 of fabric to the back so the staples wouldn't go through.
