Day ??- Let's Start Putting On The Fabric

Well I have skipped a few days of my 31 day challenge, oops. The cat is out of the bag, I am a fly by the seat of my pants kind of blogger. I try to stick to a schedule but seem to be incapable of keeping to it. Oh, well let's just start where we left off shall we?

Now that you have removed the old upholstery lets start with what is always the first part to put on. The very front of the chair. Lay the original piece out on the new fabric and cut it out leaving 2-3 inches all around.

I used some scrap white fabric for the part of the seat that will be under the cushion. No sense in wasting this pretty fabric on a spot that won't show, right? FYI this scrap fabric I found at The Salvation Army. It is actually the lining of drapes! I think I spent 50 cents on 2 HUGE panels.

Now that both pieces are cut out, it is time to sew them together.

Sew. Don't forget to sew together the seams on your corners.

Once it is all together put it in place and pull, tuck, pull tuck. Until is in just the right spot. Then begin stapling it in. Make sure it is on tightly but not too tight that the pattern on your fabric starts to pull and look wonky. I generally will put one staple in the front. Get it straight and one staple on the back. Get the sides straightened out and then put one staple on each side.

Once you've gotten that far pull tightly and evenly and put the remaining staples in.  Don't skimp on the staples.

Tada, looking good! Up next are the arms.
