75 Pounds of Tomatoes Equals....

27 quarts of stewed tomatoes! My Dad harvested 75 pounds of fresh tomatoes from the farm in Kentucky last week and this weekend we turned them into 27 jars of yummy italian style stewed tomatoes. I think we will be set for the year!

Here is a great link from youpick.org on how to can. It really is easier than you think and I think well worth the effort. You will really appreciate your effort in January when you get to taste fresh tomatoes! It is hard to go back to store bought after using your own. The taste is never the same. Enjoy!!

  2. I can't take all of the credit:) My dad did most of the prep work and Jon took the twins for the weekend. So Saturday was spent canning with Carlos. I still can't believe how many jars we have.

  3. awesome! I can't eat store tomatoes anymore, so lucky the tomato season in CA is so long and our CSA farm gives us like 50 different varieties and we have the farmers market as well. Watery store tomatoes, yuck!
