How To Organize A Toddler/ Preschooler's Playroom

As the boys get older their toys are changing and therefore how the playroom is organized needs to change. When they are little, large bins around the perimeter of the room seem to make everyone happy. The little one's can grab what they want at eye level, the toys are still pretty big so nothing falls down to the bottom of the bin never to be seen again. The bin technique also makes it easy to clean up at the end of the day! But as they get older their toys start having more pieces and get smaller so they fall to the bottom and then the bin gets dumped out all over the floor.... Not easy to clean up anymore!

Messy Playroom. Yes we turned our living room into the playroom. Why fight it? There are more of them then us:)

So what is a girl to do???

I found these great Sterilite Storage Carts for $17.00 each and free shipping with Amazon Prime!! Perfect! They are clear so the boys can see what is inside and I labeled each drawer. Now they can find what they need without dumping everything out! This has also made clean- up much easier.

I put the books up on the top shelves since the twins insist on taking them ALL off the shelf everyday. I have a small basket of books on the floor for them to read which makes it easier to clean up at the end of the day.

If you don't have a lot of room and need to keep the grown-up toys out of the kids reach, House of Grace recommends adding a child lock, like this one from Safety First, to a cabinet or closet.

Do you have any great ideas for organizing a play area? I would LOVE to hear them!

  1. For me it is all about containing the toys. Baskets in the living room and shelving in their closet, that way everything has a home to go to at the end of the day. I blogged yesterday about the shelving, stop by and check it out! :)
