How To Store Your Laundry Detergent

The one thing that brightens my mood is walking into an organized space. Our basement is not finished so when I do laundry, down to a sad basement I go. But at least when I get to the washing machine I don't have a mess to look at. I used to store my detergent in the containers they came in but it always looked disorganized to me. So I grabbed these great glass containers from Target and they just make me happy!

Update: 1/6/11 I love the container with the powder detergent but unfortunately the liquid one was a big bust. All looks and no brains. It drained slowly and then ended up making, well, a mess. So I will be repurposing this one for drinks later. Back to the container for me.

Liquid Detergent in Glass Container

Powder Detergent and Dryer Balls

I use dryer balls instead of fabric softener or dryer sheets. They are better for the environment, save money and they make my towels SO fluffy!

Do you have any GREAT laundry secrets? I would love to hear about them!

  1. Hi! Will you email me and tell me...can you get those dryer balls at the grocery? Do they really work as great as fabric softener sheets for static? and does your laundry smell great?

  2. I think you can get them at the grocery store? But I bought these at target. Bed Bath and Beyond also carries them. They don't change what your laundry smells like. It just brings out the smell of your detergent, which for me is GREAT! The dryer balls that I have pictured help a little with the static but in the winter I switch to a different kind from Bed Bath and Beyond that really helps with the static. If you go and look it will say on the package that they eliminate static. The best thing about them is how fluffy and soft they make everything. The more balls you add the softer your clothes get!!
    Good luck!

  5. I love an organized room. I didn't realize that the container with a spout was laundry detergent. I though it was covered in chalkboard paint (you can tell where my mind is at!)

I use tennis balls as dryer balls. They work great, especially when drying coats or my dog's bed.

  9. My favorite thing about linky parties and blogs is how we inspire each other. While my daughter took a nap, I sat down to the check out what was linked to Somewhat Simple and saw your post. Then I saw the ones about cleaning out the pantry and fridge. Well, I got right up and cleaned out my fridge, pantry, baking cabinet, and pots and pans cabinet. Thank you!!

By the way, I also have my detergent in a similar glass jar. My washer and dryer are in our garage. To make it a little prettier, I stapled up a large colorful tapestry I found at Target on clearance behind the machines. I guess we have to do what it takes to make it feel like less of a chore.

  10. Very nice, I do the same, but never thought to do the liquid incase it spilled, your brave.

I use BORAX for EVERYTHING!! It's cheap, all natural, and works from top to bottom in any house for any job.

  11. Amnah: I am so glad you like it! Either you are really fast or that was a LONG nap! Doesn't it feel great to get it done. BTW I love your blog, so creative.

Barb: I love a little borax myself! Do you use it in your laundry? I have for some things but my kids get a little itchy when I do. It gets the stain out but they are itchy... maybe I am doing it wrong?
