How To Refurbish An Antique Chair: Part One

I stopped by 'Such A Find's Aged Oddities' last week and found this gorgeous pair of antique school house chairs. They are a bit worn and will require a little love but will look so sweet in a little boy's bedroom.

Here is what I am thinking. I love the combination of color on the chair legs and the stained wood seats.

Refurbishing used furniture is a great way to reduce your carbon footprint. These little cuties won't take up space in a landfill and new trees won't need to be cut down to make new chairs. Plus they add character to any home because they come with a story. I'm sure many children spent hours learning new things while sitting in these chairs. Hopefully our boys will too.

I apologize for the brevity today. I have a post coming up on Monday that will be appearing on AnnArbor.com so I am working furiously on Monday's post!

I would LOVE to hear any ideas YOU have for these great chairs!

  1. Ooo... I just got an old chair last weekend... and I was thinking of painting the legs and back frame a solid colour (cream) and then staining the seat and the back horizontal pieces a rich dark brown... can't wait to see your finished chairs!!

  2. I would stain a number on the backs or the seat of the chair, black and faded with a medium toned stain.

  3. Love those chairs! They are precious!! It would be fun to stain them in a colored stain. It is colorful and you can still see the wood grain. I know ikea has some. I have used their green stain and it is really pretty. Whatever you chose to do will be great, those chairs are too cute to mess up.

  5. Those are great looking chairs. I'd lose the Pottery Barn look and paint them some amazing, bright colors with fun prints on the seats. I wouldn't do anything serious with them. I think they could be wonderfully stylish. Hope you'll stop by and see our upholstery ideas. Jane F.
