Fabric Wall Paper Turns An Ordinary Closet Into A Gorgeous Office Space

Ever since I watched the episode on The Nate Berkus Show about how to use fabric as an alternative to wall paper, I just knew I had to try it. So when it was time for this closet to become my office I jumped at the opportunity.

Before: I swear it WAS organized to start with, it just got a bit out of hand...

Empty

First I washed the trim and walls with Shaklee's non-toxic Degreaser, painted the trim and door white using Zinsser's low V.O.C no-sand primer and Valspar's low V.O.C Antique White Semi-Gloss. For the fabric walls I followed the instructions on the Nate Berkus show site, to check them out click, here.

The fabric is from Jo-Ann Fabric and was on sale for almost 1/2 off. I chose this pattern because it picks up the colors nicely in the entry-way.

After 2 evenings of getting soaked in liquid starch, this is what that sad closet turned into.

One of my favorite things is when I leave the closet door open just a bit and I catch a glimpse of the fabric walls as I walk by. It makes me so happy.

The other wonderful thing about this new closet/ office? I can close the door so my kleptomaniac children won't be tempted to wonder off with all of my pens.

What do you think? Was it worth getting soaked in starch?

  8. So Cute! I love what you did with the fabric wall paper. I am kind of scared to try this... I am sure I would make it crooked or have bubbles or something. Was it hard?

  24. Impressive, particularly as you used a geometric print! I did that on my headboard wall and soon realized a solid or random print would have been easier!

    Very chic! Janell
