This past weekend while the twins and were napping, I grabbed my 4 year old and headed to the thrift store (don't worry the Mr. was home.) He had a lovely time climbing on all of the second hand sofas. And I found this adorable little chair..... for $4.00.
Doesn't look like much does it? First I removed the old seat cover and sanded the whole thing down.
Next up, a light painting with Benjamin Moore's Radiant Skies. Followed by some serious distressing. I followed the lines of the piece to highlight its shape. When it comes to distressing my motto is "go big or go home!" Don't be shy, put your back into it!
After the distressing was to my satisfaction, I rubbed the entire piece with Valspar's antiquing glaze. And used Rub n' Buff along all of the edges. I just followed the lines using the tiniest bit of antique gold. To seal this chair I used 2 coats of Johnson's paste wax.
The seat cover I replaced with a piece of bleached drop cloth a' la Miss Mustard Seed. It is hard to tell from the pictures but these drop cloths actually have tiny threads of blue running through them, I think it adds just the right amount of texture. What do you think?
Not bad for 4 bucks, huh?
Seriously? Do you ever rest? How do you continually put out gorgeous furniture remakes with 3 boys under the age of 4? Superwoman!
ReplyDeleteYou know you are my hero! I think the finish is beyond swoon worthy. I also have to tell you how much I love your rug! Beautiful! So...tell me what you think about the bleached drop cloth. How much bleach did you use? What are your overall thoughts? I've been playing with the idea of using that fabric on my Layla chair...would love your input.
