Meet Victoria. She was brought to me by a wonderful fellow blogger who had decided she was in desperate need of a makeover. When I first saw this chair, all I could do was picture her in some formal victorian living room. Isn't she just gorgeous?
Gorgeous as she is the fabric is the original circa 1920 something? She has a wobbly arm and desperately needs a new look so she can be enjoyed in this young cabinet designer's home office.
So lets get started.
Using my 6 inch Diagonal Pliers, I removed every single upholstery tack. Making sure to take note of the order in which each piece came off. For this chair:
Trim
Back
Front
Arms
Seat
Be gentle when removing the fabric. You want to save each piece to measure your new fabric.
Take pictures along the way. I am always sure to get pictures where each piece comes together. Trust me you will thank me later.
Come back tomorrow Victoria is getting a pedicure!

Wow, what a fabulous chair! I can't wait to see it transform from an ugly duckling (not really) into a beautiful swan! I'll be back to see what you come up with. Can't wait.

would love to see your progress - great start! It is a lovely old piece of furniture and will surely look even better after a bit of freshening up.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I can't wait! Your newest follower...hope you can visit me sometime.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips! I've always toyed with the idea of reupholstering, but never knew how to go about it.
ReplyDeleteCould you tell me what you use to glue wobbly parts? I have two chairs that need to be re-done that have some loose joints.
ReplyDeleteI use a wood glue and a clamp over night. If it is a weird angle and you can't get the clamp on tightly, you can use the chairs weight. You just want to hold pressure on the glued area for about 24 hours. Hope this helps!
