I have been wanting to add something to this window for a long time. Finally this morning I felt motivated to figure something out. I knew I didn't want to spend any money so I was limited to the items in my house.
My first instinct was to grab a bit of white fabric and make a sort of valance. But as I was down in the basement I spotted these hanging from our sliding glass doors.
Nice 1960's blinds, do you hear the Brady Bunch theme song? They are in every doorway in our basement. I had even taken one set down a few months ago and it was just sitting down there. Hmmmm.
I measured the window, turned the blinds so that the sticks went from side to side instead of up and down. Cut them to size with my scissors.
Then I nailed in 5 nails across the top of the window, slid the blinds on, and doubled them over on themselves.
I can even let them down so that they cover the entire window. I probably won't do this but the option is there none-the-less.
Not to bad for free and it only took about 15 minutes.
Check out your basement, any 1960's shades down there?
You would never know! How dusty were those from 1960 :)

Great thinking? Don't you love it when you suddenly realize that something you already have can be transformed into some cool new decor? I have had this happen when lying in bed awake at night and actually gotten up to go work on it! LOL.
ReplyDeletePerfect! I love the warm yet neutral tone they bring! And what's better than reusing something in your house?!
ReplyDeleteAmazing for free, is what I'd say. Good for you for using a little ingenuity to create something so striking.

Nice work!!! Looks like the expensive Levelor shade I paid $$ for at Lowe's! Way to go on repurposing. :) Visiting from Tatertots and Jello. Hope you'll stop by my blog to say hi. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great solution! I love this look! Nice work! :)
ReplyDeletePretty cool! Very resourceful too :) They look great.
ReplyDeleteVery clever! And free! Looks terrific and the price was right!
ReplyDeleteYou know I love free and they look great! I like the texture. Mrs. Brady would be proud, Mr. Brady the architect would appreciate the horizontal lines, Bobby would probably break them.
ReplyDeleteOk, now I only wish I had great matchstick stuff I could use in multiple places. Great job repurposing!
