I have wanted to write this post for sometime now but kept thinking to myself that I am probably NOT the person to talk about my schedule. I am the person who is always trying to fit 300 things into one day. Most days it doesn't work out. As hectic as it is around here I do manage to keep everything moving forward. I guess that is the most important, right?
I get asked a lot how I manage to maintain a blog, take care of my family, home, and run a successful business. Well, most of the time it isn't pretty around here. My home is not guest ready by any stretch of the imagination but by setting some priorities things get done.
Here is a peek at my schedule for a typical weekday.
630- Wake up, shower, get dressed.
700- Get the boys breakfast- tomorrow is eggs and fruit.
730- Boys get dressed
800- Take Carlos to school
830- 930- Come home let Ravi & Joseph play and catch up on emails and Facebook.
930-1130- Take the boys to the Natural History Museum
1130-1215- Pick up Carlos from school
1215-1:00- Lunch for the boys- Peanut Butter and Honey sandwiches with fruit
1:00- 2:00- Quick check of email, Facebook, make a few phone calls. While the boys play.
2:00-5:00- Take the boys to the pool.
5:00- 6:00- Boys watch a movie while I make dinner- Spaghetti and Meatballs with garlic bread and a salad.
6:00- 6:45- Dinner
6:45-7:45- Boys in the bath and bedtime
745- 10:00- Work on blog posts, phone calls, emails.
10:00-11:00- Hang out with the hubby chatting in his office or watching a show together.
11:00- Bed.
If you notice there is not a whole lot of time allocated to cleaning.... I try to follow these 5 steps I wrote about last year. I struggled with this for sometime but have come to the conclusion that a little bit of clutter is just how it is going to have to be for now. And I am ok with it.
I also plan out the meals for the entire week on Sunday night. This helps with the grocery shopping AND makes it so I know exactly what we are eating so I am not trying to throw something together at the last minute.
My hubs is in charge of the laundry so I don't have to worry about that too much. I am however in charge of the finances around here, so that adds to my schedule a bit as well. Keep an eye out soon for a post on organizing the finances. I have been doing some serious soul searching and have been making some BIG changes in this department. I sorta wish my little Miss Boom Boom was in school so she could get on a schedule. With me working my full time job at home and running a business things get absolutely CRAZY. She is usually banging on my office door trying to get in lol. Good thing the kids let you get stuff done:)
ReplyDeleteHaha - now that I read it it sounds much better than the reality. "while the boys play" usually entails them screaming and fighting while I hide in the office and return emails:)
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to hear there are other moms out there that don't have immaculately clean houses. I grew up with a mom that always had a perfectly maintained, clean, and perfectly organized home. I don't know how she got it all done? That is so not me. Some days it seems I'm just trying to tread water above the piles of laundry and dishes. I need a wife! Just kidding, my husband helps out a lot he just works long hours. Thanks for a peek into you busy day.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the little sneak peak into your life. You sound like a pretty normal wife and mom and I love your blog!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh my life is crazy too & I don't even have kids! I don't know how moms do it :) You are a talented bunch. I'm kind of excited for your money talk! I am the money lady in our house too.
ReplyDeleteLoved this post!! Especially the part that a little clutter is OK!! thank you, for the reminder ~ I often try to keep everything just so, usually at the expense of my energy level.
ReplyDeleteAlso I'm swooning over your schedule book! Do share where you found it!!xo HHL
Here is the link to a post I did about the planner! I LOVE IT!!! I don't think the promo code works anymore but I cannot say enough about this planner.

I remember those days Sarah...now mine are teenagers. One thing that never changes is the clutter and clean up, the cooking and laundry. The shopping and the bill paying. Somehow I thought I would have more time at this stage of the game! lol!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you have your head above water...looking forward to your financial tips!
XO,
Janie
Amen to meal planning! I just started doing that a few months ago and it has made such a difference!
ReplyDeleteYou said you're trying to fit 300 things in in one day, which I believe, but you manage to fit in 3 entire hours at the pool? I don't mean to be snarky, but being able to fit 3 hours in at the pool is amazing. I'd kill for that!!
ReplyDeleteHaha, snark away. You must not have 3 boys ages 4, 2, and 2 that you have to supervise alone without a lifeguard. Taking them to the pool and making sure they don't drown themselves is actually not small feet. I don't go to the pool and swim or even sit on the side of the pool. It is constant mayhem to say the least. Picture me in a bathing suite with them fighting with each other and climbing all over me. I have to say that if it were up to me it would be WAY easier to keep them home where I can keep them under some kind of control, but they need to get out and burn some of that energy off and the pool is the best way to do it. Yes I am the lady that everyone looks upon with pity on the pool and locker room. Do you know how many times I have heard "I don't know how you do it?!" with the look of pure horror in their eyes. I even get "you poor thing"
ReplyDeleteI'm not complaining just want to give you a more accurate picture. And yes I would kill to kick back at the pool for 3 hours too;)
Okay, that gives me a better picture!
