Cantaloupe Popsicles

I read the post on Nourished Kitchen last week about the popsicles and I couldn't stop thinking about them. Fresh fruit popsicles? YUM!
So today while C was at school, I mixed together all of the ingredients in preparation for our play-date this afternoon. It took about 15 minutes, a little help getting them unstuck (thank you Carolyn) and ta-da POPSICLES!

Yes, that is a picture of the actual popsicles we made! I think my pictures are getting better!!

Cantaloupe Popsicles

1) Fruit from one ripe cantaloupe
2) Juice from one lemon
3) pinch of salt
4) 1/8 cup of sugar (optional)
5) 1/4 cup water

Blend together in a blender or food processor until well blended and freeze!

  1. We will be trying this this weekend - they sound yummy!
Have you seen the recent debates on "pure" food - http://www.slate.com/id/2260389?GT1=38001 (on drinking unpasteurized milk) and the recent raw food raids? Since I'm on the legal end of this we've seen some rather scary food coming out of some of these places - but I can sympathize with the folks that think they should be able to produce and sell whatever foods they want. Tough line to walk! Have you been seeing any of this up in Michigan? - Abby

  2. Oh yes, it is illegal to sell raw milk in michigan. And in Ann Arbor there is a demand for raw milk because of the reported health benefits etc... There are a few farms in the area that offer their raw milk but they get around the "illegal" aspect by selling you a share of the cow. So you are not actually purchasing the milk but a share of the herd. Does that make sense?
As for me I have a hard time with the raw milk idea. I'm sure that pasteurization removes some of the nutrients but it also gets rid of the bacteria! And its not like we are malnourished. I work hard to give my kids a well balanced and nutritious diet. A friend of mine grew up in amish country and she remembers not that long ago several families who were sickened with milk fever. They got it from milk from their owns cows.
It is a very interesting topic, I know there are several states where it is currently legal to sell raw milk.
