We were going through this weeks box trying to figure out what to do with fava beans and peas that were a bit too starchy just to snack on. We ended up shelling the peas and beans into her crock pot along with cabbage and a few other yummy ingredients. We decided that we would each make a pot of something and then give half to the other family. YAY one dinner I don't have to make! She also showed me a great way to make coleslaw since the one recipe I know never really turns out right. Around 10pm Jon called to inform me that J was sick so off I went to get PediaLite for the little guy....Long story short I made a stew and coleslaw around 430am since I was up anyway... ugh
For the stew I used curry, fava beans, peas, onions, garlic, celery, cabbage, dill, butternut squash, and lamb soup bones from our meat CSA. Cooked all day in the crock pot and served over basmati rice. It was pretty good. I think next time I will add more meat since the lamb gave it such a great flavor.
While the stew was cooking I had time to give the twins their first haircuts (so cute.) They don't have enough hair to entirely cover their heads but the back was getting a little out of hand, think a thinning mullet. So now they have their very first mom style, big boy hair cut. I am so proud!!
After dinner when we FINALLY made it out of the house to play C found a chipmunk that was... well... dead. So we had our first discussion about what dead means... it really is refreshing how concrete 3 year olds are! And we enjoyed catching all of the worms we dug up while making the little chipmunks final resting place. RIP Mr. Chipmunk.
