How To Make a Kids Bug Catcher

Today was great! C and I made a "bug catcher" out of an old pillowcase and spent the early afternoon chasing dragonflies and "daddy longer leggers" in the yard. We even caught a few!

After baby brothers were up from their ever so short nap we headed to the park. C met some new friends and found a huge patch of wild blackberries that had just become ripe. They were delicious! Have I mentioned how much I love Ann Arbor in the summer? There are wild blackberry patches scattered all around Ann Arbor's parks! By the time we left the park all 3 of the boys were purple and happy. It looks like these berries are just starting to turn ripe so we should have yummy blackberries for a few more weeks. YAY!

Bug Catcher Instructions

Supplies
- one regular wire hanger untwisted.
- the cardboard stick from a wire hanger used for pants.
- an old pillow case
- scissors

Find the edge of the pillowcase closest to the large opening and cut two tiny holes on either side of the seem. Take care that you only cut through one layer of the pillow case. Some pillow cases will have two seems so cut two holes on the opposite seem as well. Thread the untwisted wire hanger through the holes until it makes a circle. You should have both ends of the hanger in your hands when you are finished. Twist the two ends together and shape the opening of your pillowcase into a nice circle. Take the cardboard stick and push it onto the ends of the wire. It will work best if you don't twist the two ends together very tightly. The cardboard needs something to hold onto. Tada "bug catcher"
