Fall Front Door: The Big REVEAL!

Have you ever wonder what the meaning of a red door was? In both Chinese and American History it means Welcome, and a pineapple knocker? Hospitality and Welcome. So in order to bring our front door a sense of both meaning and timeless style.... you guessed it.

Front Door Before

Half Way. I wonder what the neighbors thought.

Still needs some bling!

Tada. Fall front door with pineapple knocker.

A few more glamour shots.

The paint color is Benjamin Moore's "Heritage Red." The wreath is from Michael's for about 8$. The Pineapple knocker was the splurge from Williams-Sonoma Home. But was HALF OFF and had free shipping. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE our new door. Finally this house is starting to feel like the home I have always dreamed of.

  1. You did a wonderful job. Red is a tough color! Beautiful, but hard to find the right one, especially with the brick you have. The two are perfect together.

  7. It is beautiful! It looks like you had a screen door on before. Was it a hard decision to remove it? I love the look of a beautifully painted front door but am not sure what to do about the practicality of having a screen door.

  8. Amy: I did go back and forth about the screen door. Fortunately or unfortunately the screen door was broken and needed to be replaced. So I went ahead and removed it. I will see if I miss it next spring and maybe I will have to put a new one up. But I really LOVE the way it looks without it!

  12. We recently painted our door red. Always wanted one. Neat to hear that it means "welcome". It's amazing how much a simple change can make such a dramatic statement. I love the pineapple door knocker. You did a fabulous job! Oh, I have 3 boys, too :)

  13. I just ran across your blog today and I am so glad. I love the red door. Just a couple of days ago I bought a quart of Heritage Red and I am so excited to see how it turns out. After seeing yours, I know it will be great. I was looking at a door knocker from pottery barn, but I love the one you have too. Thanks for sharing. I hope to post a pic on my blog Monday.

If we weren't going on the market after the holidiays, I might look to do something more interesting. I can tell you that I will be making sure my next house has a great front door!

  23. Sarah, it's gorgeous! That's the same color I had my door painted three years ago when I added on my front porch. Isn't it the most fabulous color of red?!
I adore pineapples...ever since I visited Colonial Williamsburg in my 20's and learned the meaning of the that symbol. Your door is stunning!
