This is a photo of my family room as it is now. These two chairs are facing into my kitchen, and to take this photo I was standing on the dining table, to the right is my blue buffet. I love the colors here, the red and blue together, it is so warm and cozy. And I do like it. But I always feel like maybe it is just a touch to formal for me.
So off I go to Target today, mind you I am with the twins so I didn't have a lot of time for long decisions. If you know what I mean. I spot this cute rug, beachy, casual, the colors are right, and the price was VERY right! Swap them out and....
It totally changes the feel of the room. I can't decide. I think I am having some sort of identity crisis. I have to say putting together a house is hard enough when you are sure what style you are. I am one of those folks who falls in love with every style I see.
Do you know your style? What is it and how did you discover what it was?

I like both rugs. Perhaps the red one would be a good fall/winter option and the new one a good spring/summer option. It's easy to change it up and it gives you more options to incorporate different moods and themes into your room.
ReplyDeleteI love the one you got in Target! I love how it gives the room a more casual feel.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the new rug! looks a bit more casual - but comfy! Like it!
ReplyDeleteLove the new rug, the old one is great for winter months. Its always fun to change up things. I can totally see some fun art and decor with yellows and blues on the shelves.
ReplyDeleteGo with it. Completely fun for summer.
ReplyDeleteDitto...use it for the summer and switch to the darker one for the winter months.
ReplyDeleteI like second for summer as well either way looks fabulous though.

I would definitely change them out seasonally - the red is great for the colder months but the Target one is light and fresh for summer.
ReplyDeleteI love the new rug. Perfect for summer! Tara
ReplyDeleteHa ha! When I read it I was also going to suggest the summer/fall switcheroo!! Love it...
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this room in your house, Sarah. So much character!! It's so great that you can change the whole feel of the room with a rug from Tarjay. Go with it! And in the fall/winter, bring the red rug back and get some funky pillows that will make it feel less formal for you.
ReplyDeleteok i dont know what i love more... the wood in the fire place or the wood above the fire place!
ReplyDeleteoh and i like the blue striped rug best!! :)
casual and cozy!
I Love the new rug. How about adding some red throw pillows in front of the blue ones. That would incorporate the red more (I know you weren't asking about that, but just an idea :)
ReplyDeleteI do love the red rug too though. It does feel more formal.
I am like you and can't really pin point my style. I fall in love with any well decorated room and then I want to change my rooms up.......again :)
I love the new rug, for the summer would you consider making a slipcover with a little pleated ruffle at the bottom, just covering the dark upholstery, so that the pretty legs are still visible, for your footstool? Then you would get a real summery feel in that very pretty room. You could put a basket tray on it too, just to make it fit with the summery feel. Just a thought.
ReplyDeleteDo as Lisa suggested and bring the red rug back for the Winter.
Hugs, Cindy
What a difference a rug can make! I love the second one for summer.
ReplyDeleteI like both rugs. The blue stripe is definitely more for summer.

I agree with the general notion of the red one looks great for winter, and the blue one looks great for summer due to patterns and weights. Have you thought about taking it a step further and putting a more spring/summer like decor in the fireplace, perhaps driftwood, a large basket of conch shells, or large vases with sea glass? Just an idea. I like the blue one but if it were 50 degrees outside I'd probably say the red. Good luck with your decision.
