I have a dilemma. I have this awesome chair just waiting for a new outfit. I could use another chair in the living room, I really like the lines, and it is totally comfortable.
So here is my dilemma. I stumbled across this picture posted by my friend Tammy at Beatrice Banks a few weeks ago.

I know its of shoes but I can't help myself. As soon as I saw it, I pictured this chair with pink fabric and possibly a gold finish. This is the kind of chair that you would never sit on and it wouldn't go with ANYTHING in my house. But just like an impractically gorgeous pair of shoes, I would look at it all day long and just love it. I even have the paint and fabric on hand ready to go. I fantasize about this chair. Also, I don't see it moving on Craigslist... not the right market.
Now, having said, that I also love this chair. It would go nicely in my house. blah, blah. So help me out. Which one? Practical or impulsive? HELP! Can you see me stomping my foot and whining?

Pink!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSorry but I am a sucker for pink and gold.
I love the idea of the pink chair! I live in a house full of boys and just drool over pink household things! Is your closet a walk-in? Maybe it could be a dressing chair. Or an office chair?
ReplyDeleteI wish I had a walk in closet! I can't even think where I would put it but how GORGEOUS would it be???
ReplyDeleteI think this chair WANTS to be pink :)
ReplyDeleteYou can get all practical with the next chair that comes along.
I adore pink! That's an awesome inspiration photo. Love the shoes, too.
ReplyDeletePink. Love it like hot pink toes in summer.
ReplyDeleteI gotta say PINK because it is so unexpected! :) go for it! :)
ReplyDeletePink pink pink pink pink!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
ReplyDeleteGo with your inspiration. Enjoy it, love it, and if you ever get tired of it, transform it back into a practical piece and keep it in your living room forever (=
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of a pink chair, for a bedroom, an office, a special corner...it would be lovely :))
ReplyDeleteThanks for you comment today Sarah, very happy to hear x

I think you should go for what excites you the most and it sounds like the pink one does! You only live once, right? Enjoy...
ReplyDeleteOh. Pink and gold. Drool. It would be incredible!
ReplyDeletePlease follow your inspiration! You will love the end result, rather than always looking at the practical chair thinking 'If only...'
ReplyDeleteBesides, in a house full of boys you deserve a little pink.

I always buy the shoes first and then the outfit - PINK!
ReplyDeleteI'll be a "Debbie-downer." I'd go with practical. Pink is fun and exciting. It's like cutting off your hair and getting some crazy highlights. And then, two days later, when you can't style it the way the stylist did you're like, "Why did I cut my hair again?" and then you can't sell it on Craigslist for what you invested. But that's just me. If the dream of the pink chair becomes "the one that got away" it will live as a wonderful dream. If you turn it into reality, it may not fit as well.
ReplyDeleteI am IN LOVE with that blue chair... I wasn't planning on finding a chair to reupholster, but it's definitely on my to do list now! Thank you for the inspiration! It sounds like you feel the same way about the pink chair as I do about the blue one... so I'd follow my heart... and if a single pop of pink doesn't work, I'd add some coordinating pillows or artwork so that the rest of the room goes with the chair!
ReplyDeleteI would be practical with the chair and go out and buy a completely impractical pair of shoes! ;)
ReplyDeleteI say go for the pink, but I think white would look better than gold. My 2 cents, for what it's worth. ;)
ReplyDeleteYou have the rest of your life to be practical. Go PINK!!! I have a little turquoise table in my family room that doesn't match anything, but that pop of color always makes me smile.
ReplyDeleteWith a house full of boys you need one pink chair!!
ReplyDeleteYour vision of pink sounds fun and exciting! I don't think I could get away with it because my whims usually end up in a garage sale within the year =) and it's the versitile things that stick around and I grow to love more and more. Anyway, good luck!

It sounds like a pink chair won't go with anything.
ReplyDeleteAre you going to transform that room with more pink?
My vote is to do the chair a little more neutral, and do a pillow in the pink.
I love pink. I could do an entire room in pink. Or three.
Buy the shoes! And have a practical chair. Could you do pink faux ostrich or something so at least it's safe from the depredations of the kids? (Note: I also have 3)
ReplyDeletePlease do it! I can't wait to see how it turns out!!!
ReplyDeleteI'd go pink, like you said you would look at it when done and sigh with pleasure, do it only for YOU!!!
ReplyDeleteRondell
Pink!! But I'm biased! I love pink! Ultimately, just think about whether you can stand to look at a pink chair for a long time (I know I could)!
ReplyDeleteWhy can't you do something in between? Perhaps the problem is that you haven't hit on the correct fabric that is WOW like the pink chair, but would still be able to live well in your home as a statement piece. I think a fabric shopping excursion should be in your future!;)
ReplyDeleteI would go with the pink, I think sometimes we just need to follow our heart, and it sounds like your heart is saying pink, and hey if it turns out bad, you can always change it. kittycrochettwo.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteLife it too short...go with your heart...PINK
ReplyDeleteas if this is really a question... ;)
ReplyDeletePINK!
