How To Organize Your Linen Closet

For some reason who ever designed this house thought it would be a good idea to put a closet for hanging clothes on the second floor landing. For me this is the obvious spot for the linen closet and a hanging design just doesn't work...

See what I mean? No good.
So I went to Lowes and picked up some shelving and baskets. Put them together and...

Much better. Let me tell you how I organized it.

The crib sheets are in the top basket, unfolded. Why? because it saves time and come on, they are crib sheets! Do they really need to be folded? I think not.

On the second shelf to the bottom are 4 sets of queen sheet sets. I fold each set into a little package. Folded fitted sheet, folded top sheet, and pillow case all stuffed into one of the pillow cases. That way when I am ready to make a bed, all I need to do is grab one and it has everything I need. No need to spend time searching for matching sheets and pillow cases.

I do this with all of the sheets in the house. One of the baskets also contains twin sheet sets all wrapped up and ready to go.

I don't know what it is about laundry and linens but I just love it.

  1. Obviously a man designed your house ~ hee hee. Probably thought nothing of what would actually go into that closet. At least you got one. I did not notice until I moved into my house that I have no linen closet. I have nowhere to put my vacuum. It bounces around the house and usually ends up in my craft/office closet.....sigh

  3. I like the little sheet packages. I need to do that cause mine fall all over the narrow shelving. And the same person that designed your house, designed mine...I have no place for the vacuum cleaner.

  8. Like your washcloths, I love the crib sheets in the basket. Think I could do that with my fitted sheets? No, no Camille, put them all in a bundle like Sarah said to do.
