We moved into this house a little over a year ago. Needless to say last year we were too busy with tiny babies to put in a vegetable garden. This year we tried.... tried is the key word here. Our yard has only one spot that gets afternoon sun and it is right next to the house. But I thought lets just put some plants in and see what happens. Well turns out the bed gets maybe 6 hours of sun.... and has been frequented by rabbits!! AAAH he ate all of our strawberries before they turned red and I am noticing that all of our VERY slow growing herbs are being trashed by this guy. There is still hope for our tomatoes, if they get enough sun... but I think that is about it. Next year we will be relying solely on our CSA, oh well. My hopes for a kitchen garden I think will have to be replaced by a nice bed of perennials.

We did have a nice day out in the front yard putting in the veggies! Jon very carefully planted each little seed and plant under the specific direction of C. Poor guy all he wants to do is eat the veggies he planted and all month I kept saying "don't eat them or they won't grow!" and now the rabbit is chowing down. I think I will tell C that he can go crazy and eat whatever he wants. He should be pretty excited about that!
I also included a picture of our little Robin friend that has been trying to peck his way through the windows all week! He must see his reflection in the window and think it's his girlfriend?? Anyway C thinks its pretty funny when he comes to the window he just cracks up.... so cute!
Very cool blog, Sarah!! I love the pictures--very well done. Mom is going to love the picture of the your robin. And, yes, I would definitely like some strawberry shortcake, please!!
ReplyDeleteI do love the robin and am glad C is entertained by him. Maybe a future birder? I can dream.
